Strength-based Therapy is a type of positive psychotherapy and counseling that focuses more on internal strengths and resourcefulness, and less on weaknesses, failures, and shortcomings. This focus sets up a positive mindset that helps build on an individual’s best qualities, find strengths, improve and change worldview to one that is more positive. A positive attitude, in turn, can help expectations and become more reasonable. The following form the basis for client Strength-based Therapy:
1. Client Responsibility
2. Client Goal Setting;
3. Focus on Strengths and not weaknesses;
4. Collaboration as part of the treatment team;
5. Develop Community-based Recovery resources.
