Individual Therapy

Justifiably, Clients often enter treatment with ambivalence about giving up their use of drugs and alcohol. Individual Therapy introduces Client to Person-centered care (PCC) in the pursuit of developing Treatment Plan Goals. Rather than focusing on failings and deficits, the principles of PCC are strengths-based and include the following: integration of a holistic or bio-psycho-social approach; an individualized focus on Clients’ unique needs, goals and preferences; shared power and responsibility between the Client and Counselor; shared decision-making; and a strong therapeutic alliance. Ambivalence is worked through in the beginning of treatment while issues of motivation and action are revisited throughout the recovery process.

In treatment, group therapy is the communal path to changing behavior, while individual therapy is a solitary journey to understanding our true desires, leading to the transformation of living a self-directed life. As the drug-induced fog of uncertainty is lifted—much like morning mist evaporating under the break of dawn—vision sharpens into crisp reality. Self-awareness blooms, invigorating the spirit and inspiring an odyssey of introspection. Once again, the lucid mind is experienced. Clarity of purpose returns, focusing like a laser on goals that remained dormant far too long. Now clear-eyed and motivated to recover, preparation leads to the action of fulfilling mislaid dreams and aspirations.
